Am I Alone in My Fight Against Diverticulitis?

For many people struggling with diverticulitis, the fight can feel like a lonely road. It’s a very common disease, affecting nearly everyone over the age of 70 or 80, but it’s not usually a disease that gets much public attention, like Alzheimer’s or cancer. While the effects and reach of diverticulitis may seem to warrant a higher priority in the public eye, sadly, this is not the case.

However, before you think that you are the only one who has ever suffered with this disease, consider this list of famous people who have suffered from diverticulitis:

  • Desi Arnaz (star of I Love Lucy)
  • John Wooden (UCLA basketball coach)
  • Craig Venter (he mapped the human genome – too bad he didn’t find a cure!)
  • James Polk (11th President of the United States of America)

Now will this list make any of your diverticulitis symptoms disappear? Unfortunately, no; however, it can give you hope, knowing that you are not alone in your struggle. Many people have fought diverticulitis and many people today are still fighting, so don’t give up and don’t give in. You will come through!
